Do I have to attend every single rush event?

No, you do not have to attend every rush event. However, the more chances you have to interact with our Brothers, the more likely it is you will leave a lasting impression. If you are not able to make the events, but are really interested in rushing, we recommend contacting the Recruitment Advisor and letting them know. Back to top.

Is attending an interview mandatory?

Yes. In order to join Phi Sigma Pi, every prospective member must submit an application and attend an interview session. Prospective members who do not attend an interview will not be considered for a bid. Back to top.

What will happen during my interview?

Your interview allows members of the Executive Board and Recruitment Committee to get to know you better, and provides an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. Be prepared to talk about relevant high school and college experiences that touch upon our tripod of scholarship, leadership, and fellowship. Back to top.

What’s a bid?

A bid is essentially an invitation from the Brothers to join the next initiate class. Receiving a bid does not guarantee membership, nor do you have to accept the bid. Accepting a bid will grant you a place in the semester's initiate class. Back to top.

How many applicants do you accept?

There is no set number. Our Chapter typically hands out between 5 to 25 bids each semester. Back to top.

If I am not given a bid, can I rush again?

Yes! Past applicants are encouraged to rush again if they truly want to join Phi Sigma Pi. It reflects well on an individual if they are willing to put in the time to go through the recruitment process more than once. Back to top.

Do you have any recommendations for rushing?

You should meet as many Brothers as you can and ask Brothers any and all questions you have. Remember that we are a professional fraternity — take care in presenting yourself at all functions and through all channels of communication whether it be through email, face-to-face interactions, or text messages. First impressions are critical. Be yourself! Back to top.

Can I be a member of Phi Sigma Pi and still belong to a social fraternity or sorority?

Phi Sigma Pi allows membership in other Greek organizations as long as it is permitted by other Greek organizations as well. Check with each organization's leadership just in case. Back to top.

What is the time commitment?

It depends. Like most things in life, the more you put into something the more you will get back. The first semester is usually one of the busiest times due to the initiation program. After the first semester, how involved you become is largely dependent on how involved you wish to be. All Brothers are expected to attend weekly chapter meetings and other occasional mandatory events throughout the year. In addition, all Brothers are required to complete event requirements each semester. Brothers elected to Committee Chair or Executive Board positions likely will be adding a few more hours to their schedules. Back to top.

How much does it cost to join?

In order to join Phi Sigma Pi, potential members must meet all financial obligations. The first semester, known as your initiation semester, will typically cost around $200.00. However, every semester after you become a Brother, dues will be significantly lower. Payment plans are available through our Treasurer who you can contact with any financial concerns. Our Chapter strives to ensure that finances are the last concern for potential members who want to join. Back to top.

Is there a pledging or initiation period?

Yes. Our initiation program provides an opportunity for you and the members of Phi Sigma Pi to assess whether or not Phi Sigma Pi is the right organization for you. If you are to reach your full potential as a member, you must have a thorough understanding of our organization and solid grasp of the principles upon which we were founded. Understanding the goals and objectives of Phi Sigma Pi and incorporating them into your life can only be accomplished through your commitment to participating in the initiation period. Back to top.

Will I be hazed?

Absolutely not! The Brothers of Phi Sigma Pi are dedicated to promoting a safe and healthy environment that fosters respect for the dignity and rights of all members. As such, we will not tolerate hazing activities by any individuals associated with our Fraternity. Back to top.
