E-Board Spotlight: Raeghan Smith
Raeghan Smith is a senior at Saint Joseph’s University who is very active and involved on campus. In addition to being a SCHOLAR at the Kinney Center, she also serves as our Vice President. As VP, Raeghan says the role has been fundamental in her growth as a person, teaching her the value of collaboration and delegation. This organization has helped her become the great leader she is today and has allowed her to realize the importance of creating safe spaces, something she hopes to foster in every capacity in her future postgraduate career.
Furthermore, for the past two semesters, Raeghan has been working closely with Dr. Baglione, Associate Professor of Political Science, in an independent study. Last semester, she aided in research for Dr. Baglione’s latest textbook. While doing so, her and Dr. B developed a shared interest in British politics which led them to their newest research endeavor.
This semester, the two have taken a deep dive into the case of Teresa May and whether or not she was pushed off the glass cliff when she arose to power as UK’s prime minister. Raeghan has seen firsthand the process of research and analysis, recently presenting her and Dr. Baglione’s research findings at the NorthEastern Political Science Association Conference last month. With the feedback they received, they can now expand their research. Because of her recent work, Raeghan has realized this is something she would like to do in the future. When she graduates this coming May, she will continue to work in the analysis of gender and politics now that she has this excellent experience under her belt!
