E-Board Spotlight: Liz Sweeney
Meet Senior Liz Sweeney! Liz is currently the Director of Communications for the Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI). As such, she mentors, leads, and oversees the rest of the Communications Team, and is in charge of all WLI social media accounts. Liz is a senior Political Science major and is also pursuing a minor in Psychology. Originally from Wilmington Delaware, Liz attended Charter School of Wilmington.
Not only is Liz involved with WLI, but she also participates in many campus activities and organizations. Liz serves as a member of the Peer Review Board, is a brother of the service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, and is a mentor in the Her’d Mentoring Program at Gompers Elementary School. Additionally, Liz has traveled and served as a part of the Winter Immersion Program and the Appalachian Experience. This summer Liz will be working for a political campaign where she will be directing and managing communications and social media platforms. Additionally, she is interning for the Philadelphia Energy Authority and is specifically working with the Solarize Philly campaign. Solarize Philly works to expand accessibility and affordability of solar energy for all residents in the Philadelphia area.
When asked about her greatest passion, Liz said, “I’m really passionate about creating a diverse society in which individuals greater recognize the importance of compassion and standing up for the rights of others.” She is inspired by national figures such as Michelle Obama, Amy Klobuchar, Ellen Degeneres, as well as her local representative Lisa Blunt Rochester. Through WLI, Liz hopes to become a leader who listens to others and facilitates education and change. Liz plans to utilize these leadership skills and pursue a career in public policy.
