Senior Farewell 2021: Christine, Sophie, Raeghan, and Liz

Throughout what was undoubtedly a difficult year for everyone on campus, WLI was lucky enough to spend time (virtually, of course) with our four graduating seniors. All majoring in Political Science, Christine DiSanti, Sophie Page, Raeghan Smith, and Liz Sweeney have all been undeniable leaders and contributors during their time on our executive board. Christine, Raeghan, and Liz will be staying at SJU to complete their 4+1 Public Policy masters program. Sophie will be attending the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill to get her masters in Public Health, with a focus in maternal health. All of our seniors have had diverse experiences on campus, with at least one of them participating in Hawk Host, Peer Review Board, Global Smarts, or Hawk Hub. These four women have been leaders throughout our campus, not just within WLI. We are so proud of all the work they have put in the last four years, all of the goals they continue to have, and the impact they have on those around them. We can not give you enough congratulations and well wishes for all to come!

Christine,

We are so thankful for your time as a member of our communications team. Your dedication and creativity motivated everyone in our organization to make better content for our page, as well as be better people. From being a member of our team to being a friend to talk to, the WLI executive board cannot express enough how grateful we are to have worked with you.

The best part about being a member of a team is that everyone is important. It takes hard work and coordination to successfully run an organization and your efforts helped us immensely. We always knew we could call on you to create us a spectacular promotional flyer in record time, something that never failed to amaze us. But beyond the content you produced, the way you carried yourself inspired us all. As a friend, you offered us all kindness and compassion. During the stressful times of being a college student it was helpful and comforting to know that you were only a text away. The memories of laughing about whatever and stressing about school will be the ones we will cherish the most. For all your efforts and your thoughtful friendship, we thank you again Christine.

We will dearly miss you as a member of our team. It is a pleasure that we will still have you around next year as you complete your master’s degree. We wish you the best of luck in the future although we know that you will shine wherever you may go.

Best regards,

Sophie,

We have been so lucky to share time with you over the last four years. Your creativity and humor make you such a joy to be around and has impacted all of our experiences within WLI. Your welcoming attitude and passion for women’s issues have made you an essential part of our family. Your openness to new members and excitement to talk to everyone is key to our environment.

Your participation in many things outside WLI, such as Hawk Host, Film Studies, and Phi Sigma Sigma, is a testament to how open-minded you are and how you have impacted the whole Saint Joe’s community. Your leadership shows in everything you do through your ability to connect with anyone and make everyone smile.

Your confidence in everything you do, from composing emails, to directing videos, to engaging in political discussions has made you a mentor in all of our eyes. We greatly admire your confidence and dedication to all of your responsibilities and we can only imagine what someone with your drive and outlook is capable of.

Sophie, you will be missed so dearly by us all, but you and your time and efforts will never be forgotten within this WLI. We all thank you immensely for everything you have done to help keep WLI running smoothly. We are incredibly proud of your plans at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and we are excited to see all that you achieve. We truly wish you the very best in life.

Warm regards,

Raeghan,

Raeghan is a crucial member of the WLI eboard. She brings positivity and her radiant smile to every meeting and event we create or attend. This is what made her the perfect Vice President and therefore the planner and organizer of WLI’s keystone event: Professional Development Day. As a junior, I became her protege while Raeghan was abroad in Brussels, having no idea what to do. However, in perfect Raeghan style, she taught me everything I needed to know from Belgium and we had not even actually met yet!  Upon meeting Raeghan in the spring semester, I was able to piece together all of the amazing compliments and attributes that the rest of the eboard members were telling me about raeghan and she exceeded all expectations of a leader for me to learn from. She is an outstanding woman and leader who is very involved all over campus and never fails to make the people around her feel heard and empowered. She is empathetic and always encourages those around her to be inclusive of others and reminds all of us of the importance of kindness.

Raeghan’s commitment to research and to her education is not lost on us as her peers either.  We have watched in awe at her accomplishments and research especially as she has worked closely with professors in the Political Science Department on an independent study on Theresa May and the glass cliff. She is a champion for women and for shattering the glass ceiling. Her work with Dr. Baglione is so important and we are excited to see what other changes Raeghan creates at SJU as she continues her education through the 4+1 Public Policy Program. We are so happy that Raeghan is not completely leaving us next year and will be around to show us even more about creating inclusive and safe spaces for everyone and of course bringing her brilliant smile with her! We will miss Raeghan and her energy greatly! Thank you Raeghan for teaching me personally and being a woman whom I look up to greatly.

All the best,

Liz,

WLI has been so lucky to have your ideas and energy throughout your undergraduate years. We are so lucky to have you leading us through one more year while you complete your 4+1 master’s degree in Public Policy. During an unprecedented year, your confidence, understanding, organization, and humor kept us motivated and excited about WLI.

You are not just a leader to us, but a friend and a mentor. In WLI, we are so impressed with how you present ideas and take on project after project, going out of your way to corral all of E-Board and get full participation. For those of us who have gotten to share a class with you, we never cease to admire your intellect, leadership, and relationships with professors. Your maturity, diplomacy, and dedication shows in everything you do and we are so grateful to have someone on our team who embodies all of these qualities so wholeheartedly.

Beyond your capabilities, you never fail to genuinely care about all of us on your team. Whether it be remembering friends’ names, classes we are taking, assignments we are stressed about, or anything personal we are going through, you are there for us beyond WLI. You constantly make an effort to keep the members of the Communications Team close and we greatly appreciate the way that you have brought and keep us together.

Liz, thank you for being a bright spot in all of our years. You have not just impacted our professional development, but our personal lives as well, and we are so lucky. We wish all the best for you and cannot wait to see all the history you make. We are so thankful to have you back for next year and that we have one more year to learn from you and all that you are.

All our best,
